Nashville Police Officer Shoots Man Who Charged at Him With a Gun

Nashville, Tennessee — On June 9, 2025, at 8:44 a.m., a caller to 911 reported seeing a man walking on Driftwood Street near Hermitage Avenue, carrying a gun in his hand. The caller said the man looked distraught and did not look well. Sergeant Robert Weaver, a 27-year Metro Police veteran and the community coordinator for the Hermitage Precinct heard the dispatch and spotted the gunman as he walked on Hermitage Avenue, toward the downtown core. Sergeant Weaver followed the armed man, repeatedly ordering the suspect to put the gun down. Sergeant Weaver exits his vehicle, continuing to order the man to put the weapon down, but the suspect charged at the officer. That’s when Weaver fired three shots, striking the suspect. The man was rushed to a local hospital where he died. He carried no identification and his fingerprints will be run through databases in the effort to identify him.
