«This video was around last year. I'm not sure for certain, but I think someone said it was a military training exercise in africa. The gas was tear gas and its similar to what the marines do in the USA, only without the gas masks. It's basically an abuse of power as most who enlist are poor farmers who do it because they have no other choice. But no one died, otherwise the UN would be breathing down their neck.
Sarin, VX and other nerve gas are usually colorless. They can be yellow if a pigment is added to them if used on the battlefield. Lets just say if it was nerve gas, nobody would be standing that close to it. Probably not even with cbrn gas masks.

The problem is that the people standing at the top of the pit aren't really running away.

You would think that many people could have easily overwhelmed the few that were gassing them. I guess nobody in that group was willing to be the tip of the spear and sacrifice themselves to maybe save themselves and many others. Instead, they ended with a whimper and weakened their souls in the process. As for the ones gassing them, they will eventually make their way to the gates of hell and it wont be virgins waiting for them.
