The incident began when deputies made contact with a man, later identified as 37-year-old Adan Perez Hernandez, who was observed holding a knife. During the contact, Hernandez advanced towards one of the deputies with another device that appeared to be a bow and arrow. Despite receiving several verbal commands to drop the weapon, Hernandez did not comply and continued to approach the deputy. As a result, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The deputies rendered aid to Hernandez and called for medical personnel. Hernandez was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. A knife and another item that looked similar to a bow was recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured during this incident. On July 23, 2024, Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, on a felony warrant for Brandishing a Deadly Weapon at an officer and Resisting an Executive Officer. Hernandez is being held on $50,000 bail at the Todd Road Jail in Santa Paula. His first court appearance was on July 24, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., in Ventura County Superior Court.
