Cops Open Fire After Man Emerges With Shotgun During Domestic Call

Cottonwood, Arizona — On April 27, 2025, at approximately 9:55 p.m., two Cottonwood Police Officers respondes to a domestic violence call involving 58-year-old David Coomer, a resident of Cottonwood. The incident took place at a single-family residence in the 1000 block of South Vista Grande Drive in Cottonwood, Arizona. The caller, David Coomer's spouse, contacted 911 saying her husband was inside their bedroom closet with access to multiple types of guns. She described him as "raging" and the family was not safe around him. When two Cottonwood Police Officers arrived at the residence, they spoke with David Coomer's spouse, who provided further details about his behavior. She described him as acting like a "lunatic" and again affirmed he was currently inside a closet where firearms are stored. Prior to the David exiting the bedroom, body camera video captured the sound of a shotgun being racked. Moments later, David Coomer emerged from the bedroom armed with a shotgun, prompting officers to discharge their firearms. Coomer succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
